Callaway Garden...First Stop on My Anniversary

This post is going to be not very wordy because I'm on an anniversary trip.  My husband asked me if I wanted to stop at Callaway Garden on the way to the mountains to celebrate our second anniversary...as if he had to ask! I will post comments at a later time but I wanted to post the pics now..
The main entrance of Callaway Gardens.  But we stayed at Mountain Creek Inn.  Callaway Gardens is 2500 acres located in Pine Mountain, GA.  It's a little across the state line from Alabama.

If visiting the gardens, I recommend staying at a hotel close the gardens.  Staying in the gardens will get you free admission to the gardens, which was 18 a person for non-special events, or 25 during special events.  Now, if you need convenience of getting in during special events it might be better.

As mentioned we stayed at the Mountain Creek Inn, which had no shortage of occupants.  This was the view from the parking lot.  I believe this is a golf course.

I will say that the hotel had a variety of plants around it, that I would love to know what it was.

There are golf carts and bikes that you can rent at the hotel.  The hotel had two restaurants but we ate at Cricket's Restaurant for dinner and the Country Store for breakfast.  Both of which I recommend.

Plants around the Inn

You will have a hard time finding the lobby.

Begonias

Hydrageas

The room was 160 a night.  It was clean but stark.  No refridgerator, no microwave.  No pen and paper.  It was clean but I think for the price, you would do well outside of the gardens.

In Callaway, GO to the BUTTERFLY Center!  I wish that I could comment more here and now but I had to empty my sim card for the camera and we now in North Carolina about to go hiking through waterfalls.  So pressed for time.  For more information on Callaway, click HERE>

The red flowers in the 6th picture down might be Hamelia patens.

Calloway Gardens has lots to see and do. The indoor Butterfly Garden is full of non-native butterflies. In season, the shrubs outside are covered in native butterflies.

Enjoy your trip. The mountains must be beautiful this time of year.

Hi Nell....just got back from the waterfalls...living on the Alabama coast, it's hot...for most of my life, I have lived by the beach...despite living relatively secluded....we went to an even more secluded area..but I suppose it is our nature..I'm gonna post some pics of the waterfalls and the native plants...one thing people love up here a trees....I couldn't put my finger on it at first but the variety and beauty of them is astounding...I'm so sore from all the hiking....but it is truly beautiful in GA and NC this time of year...
