Rose of the Week ...Altissimo

I haven't been blogging a lot..been a bit busy, at least I think so.  This week's rose is Altissimo...at least, that is what I believe it is.  Sometimes when you buy roses at the big box stores, you have to back into it's type.  I am comfortable this is Altissimo, however.  This rose is the "weird" on my group.

In the winter, it's color of new growth was so dark, the plant looked black.
It was one of the first to bloom this year.  It's a climbing rose but since I always think something is wrong with it...it gets pruned for whatever reason.

Then I thought it had witches broom.  Not sure if it really did, because I have seen other climbers do this.  So yet again, it had been spared from the shovel of death.
I don't think I "understand" this rose,..but I have had it a while...and hopefully will continue to do so.  For more information, on Altissimo, click HERE.

It's a very nice rose. Maybe what you don't understand is that it wants to grow high and wide to show you how pretty it can be with a load of big 7-petaled blossoms in the landscape.

You are probably right...it just has characteristics that are so different from the others.
