Yes, I bought a ton of roses. I will need to find a rosaholic anonymous meeting I am certain. Anyway, I went to Lowes and they have roses for which I recognized the names. For my anniversary, my husband bought me the Encyclopedia of Roses and I haven't stopped looking at, since. The "problem" is that these are bare root roses. Now, I have read what you are supposed to do with them when you put them in the ground....However, I can't put them in the ground...my guess is to put them in pots until late February or Early March? Plus I have 24 roses that I need to put in the ground.... I guess I will research but suggestions would be great

Wow! Look at that haul! How thrilling! And I'm so jealous of your greenhouse! Definitely pot them up and place them in the greenhouse until spring. Good luck with them all!
That was my thinking. My sister-in-law suggested putting them in the ground but I want to prepare proper beds before that.... before I dug a hole and put the plant in..not saying I won't do that know but I think I want to think about it some more....
How long do I have before they need to go into pots? How long can they stay in the condition that they are in? I have 15 pots (I think) but I don't have that kind of dirt..and how big of a pot...I know these sound like dumb questions, but I have to learn somehow...
In respect to the greenhouse, my husband built if for me...he thinks the materials cost about 300 dollars and it took him maybe two or three weekends..but he didn't work on it straight...its a 12 by 24...the interior is a wood frame, then it has some type of piping that gives it a skeleton, and then it has visqueen(sp) around it. We did run electricity to it but its a nice greenhouse..I saw that the commercials ones cost over $4,000 but I saw him make it...I am not suggesting I could do it but I think if you were relatively good with a hammer it is doable. You would be amazed how hot they get in there...I know I won't be able to use it after the temps avg 70 degree...because the greenhouse can hit 100...easily...if the door isn't opened it will do that no matter what the temp is outside if the son is shining...it's amazing..to see
Well, I got the plants into pots..I was a little confused about the depths and I didn't want to do what they referred to as heeling. The John F Kennedy rose has serious thorns that I have been digging out of my thumb for twenty minutes. I also learned that the bags with the picture of the rose is removable and you can stick it on the new pot for identification.
Well, I'm glad you got them into pots. I've been babysitting my granddaughter so I haven't been reading blogs much lately. For best results on bare roots, soak them for up to 24 hours in water, then place them in good dirt in pots buried up to the graft. The most important thing is to be careful with the tiny little roots - those are the feeder roots. Anyway, however you did it will probably be fine. Roses are really quite tough. Thanks, too, for the greenhouse info. My husband and I are horrible carpenters (usually what we build falls down with the first wind!), but I think he would like to have one as much as I, so we may try building one eventually.
