Rose of the Week....Climbing American Blaze

PS...or should say pre script.....anyway..I am noticing other blogs using Wednesday as Wordless...so I'll post these on Thursdays from now on.
Climbing American Blaze

She is one of the first roses I bought.  It reads red and I know she looks red here but I am inclined to think of her as dark pink.  She sits by the creek side and receives some shade but it's very hot where she is.

This spring she certainly has had a flush.  I do have an issue with black spot and her.  Maybe she will bloom more this year.  Pretty rose, but not one of my favorites.

She sits behind Impatient rose and Don Juan.  Yes, she is rather unruly at the moment and will need to peg her or something.  Behind her is Climbing Golden Showers.

This was her in May 2012, so I have had her at least a year.

I don't remember when I bought her  but she is against the utiltiy pole.  She didn't bloom much last year...I don't know if she needed to be established or wasn't getting enough water.

She is shade tolerant.  For more information on Climbing American Blaze, click HERE

Pink & Red Rose Bed

I don't know what this rose is.  It should be Promise but I think I have switched roses along the way.  I will say it is an outstanding red rose with great fragrance.  I believe this Chrysler Imperial.  Whatever the rose is, it would make a great Valentine's day rose

Your climbing Blaze looks very nice. Looks like it's in the creep stage? (1st year sleep, 2nd year creep, 3rd year leap) It will be fabulous growing around the pole.

I think the climbing golden showers are, also, in the creeping stage as well. Blaze hardly bloomed last year.

You asked about Julia Child. This is what somebody commented on WFF:
"We love watching the blooms open in egg yolk yellow, mature into butter yellow, and languish in cream." They also said she doesn't grow to great size. 3' is about it.
Of the 4 I grow, Nacogdoches is the brightest, clearest yellow and fades least. None grow very big, but I don't plant a cutting garden.

Nell, didn't you have something called a "chicken" rose that was absolutely amazing? Or is that the same rose a Nacodoches.....and believe it or not, I think I know how to pronounce that...

The Chicken Rose is Nacogdoches, also known to the TAMU folks as 'Grandma's Yellow Rose' -- you won't find it sold as the Chicken Rose, but you might find either of the other two names.

I will definitely keep an eye since it's name is so unusual.
