December Bloom Day

It's December bloom day.  This is where garden blogger post what is blooming in their garden on the 15th of each month.  Then we post it on May dreams gardens. We have had an extremely warm December but many freezes.  It's a bit annoying because things try grow & then get killed.  This week will be in the 70's and next week drop into the 30's.  All that being said, not a whole lot is blooming right now.  I'll start with the greenhouse & show what is blooming outside.
The greenhouse isn't as packed as it was last years.  To see what December 2012 looked like, click HERE.  It is amazing how quickly my gardens change.
Bougainvilleas are blooming...they love it it in here.

Begonias

Outside some roses are still blooming

Knockouts are really going to town.  This area is over hang with huge oaks which probably give a bit of protection.

Alabama Beauty Camellias I think are done blooming.

Rye grass was planted a month late but it's coming up.

Memphis music rose

Encore Azaleas bloom 10 out of 12 months

Mexican Heather underneath has fared well.

Back rose garden now.  Below is what it looked like in October.
What the rose garden looked two months ago.  I have enjoyed the break.

Green Ice roses are still blooming.

My other camellias are starting to wake up.
Knockouts in the back rose garden is still going.

Journal Notes...Breaks, Weddings & Freezes

I have had an enormously buy week for unusual reasons.  Thanksgiving, license renewal, museum, freeze, burnout to name a few.  But I have learned to love winter break....I will be ramping up for a new garden season.  After three frost back to back, it has been in the 70's of course..with lots rain.  The fall trees are now revealing their colors.  I have been well..it's has been rejuvenating to think of other things.  Last winter, I was much worse...which implies a strong spring fever.

The Bradford Pear trees are as colorful as the red maples.

Ornamental trees in the front field

The cosmos finally burned I will probably cut them own shortly.
Red Maple is a beauty

Another wildflower be that has burned.

Will probably mow but not remove them.

Gallardia seeds

Loquat

No fruit though.

Climbing Blaze rose is faring very well... I think it likes the cold.
Creek needs to be manicured.

Knockouts love the temps

Finally, I mentioned a wedding. I have a previous on the subject.  Click HERE. It appears my rose may host not only a wedding reception but provide the flowers.  This will be in the Fall....I am certain I'll mention it again. Lots to get going for next year...& next year will be the year of the Peacock... I'll be scarce  a bit then I will be full force like normal......

Rose of the Week....Climbing American Blaze

PS...or should say pre script.....anyway..I am noticing other blogs using Wednesday as Wordless...so I'll post these on Thursdays from now on.
Climbing American Blaze

She is one of the first roses I bought.  It reads red and I know she looks red here but I am inclined to think of her as dark pink.  She sits by the creek side and receives some shade but it's very hot where she is.

This spring she certainly has had a flush.  I do have an issue with black spot and her.  Maybe she will bloom more this year.  Pretty rose, but not one of my favorites.

She sits behind Impatient rose and Don Juan.  Yes, she is rather unruly at the moment and will need to peg her or something.  Behind her is Climbing Golden Showers.

This was her in May 2012, so I have had her at least a year.

I don't remember when I bought her  but she is against the utiltiy pole.  She didn't bloom much last year...I don't know if she needed to be established or wasn't getting enough water.

She is shade tolerant.  For more information on Climbing American Blaze, click HERE

Journal Notes and Other Roses in Bloom

Pink & Red Rose Bed

I don't know what this rose is.  It should be Promise but I think I have switched roses along the way.  I will say it is an outstanding red rose with great fragrance.  I believe this Chrysler Imperial.  Whatever the rose is, it would make a great Valentine's day rose
