Rose of the Week ...Altissimo

I haven't been blogging a lot..been a bit busy, at least I think so.  This week's rose is Altissimo...at least, that is what I believe it is.  Sometimes when you buy roses at the big box stores, you have to back into it's type.  I am comfortable this is Altissimo, however.  This rose is the "weird" on my group.

In the winter, it's color of new growth was so dark, the plant looked black.
It was one of the first to bloom this year.  It's a climbing rose but since I always think something is wrong with it...it gets pruned for whatever reason.

Then I thought it had witches broom.  Not sure if it really did, because I have seen other climbers do this.  So yet again, it had been spared from the shovel of death.
I don't think I "understand" this rose,..but I have had it a while...and hopefully will continue to do so.  For more information, on Altissimo, click HERE.

Does My Climbing Rose have Witches Broom? ..Rose Rosette Disease (RRD)

Was feeding the roses this morning, and much to my horror, I saw this on my Altissimo rose.  I rushed off to the Co-op to get Sevin and spray down the roses so it didn't transfer.  I went over to the museum and looked at the stormy weather and noticed that it had similar canes.  Altissimo is a strange rose so before I condemn it to death, I need to identify if it is witches broom because I notice climbers will look like this and the red is new growth generally.  Over the winter it almost looked black when it had new growth.

I found this publication on line. Click HERE I find that climbers look like this when they have new growth...so Is it witches broom?

Bare Root Roses Starting to Bloom ...

The bare root roses I planted in January and February are starting to bloom.  Most that are not blooming do have buds on them.  Given the number of cultivars I have, I may or may not have the right rose named.  I do have a rose maps and entries to verify the rose...

I believe this is Promise
